This gathering developed from the ideals of preserving the village's roots and traditions and keeping the history and musical heritage of the legend of the bagpiper or buner of Ordino alive. This legend has existed in the valley as long as can be remembered. In 1983, the logo of the bagpiper or buner – drawn by the artist Sergi Mas – already accompanied the first International Festival of classical music in this parish; later he appeared in a documentary film – directed by the late Jordi Gigó – and later still, an auca (illustrated rhyme) by Salvador Puy was published, relating the legend of the buner of Ordino. All the different acts at each gathering are of a popular nature, just as the instrument has always been, and the buners or bagpipers who used to play were simple folk, travelling from town to town, from festival to festival. International Music Colours Festival Music Colours is an Escaldes-Engordany initiative and has seen different stages with artistic criteria that have always prized diversity in order to be faithful to a diverse public appreciative of different musical styles. At the same time, the International Music Colours Festival favours access to music through free open-air concerts and other larger concerts with all seats set at reasonable prices. Politicians and the public are committed to maintaining this type of cultural initiative, fully identified with Escaldes-Engordany, as Music Colours plays a major part in the country's musical scene. Music and Dance SeasonThe Season is a top-flight exhibition for exclusively premiering and presenting top-quality music and dance performances. International recognition is unanimous at all the most important festivals and events on the artistic panorama. At past editions, today's most acclaimed and renowned artists have been introduced. You need JavaScript enabled to view it Narciso Yepes International FestivalThe Narciso Yepes International Festival was born in the year 1983 through the drive of the maestro and guitarist Narciso Yepes, known for having been one of the best classical guitarists in the world and for having invented the 10-chord guitar. This festival was celebrated at the church of Saint Corneli and Saint Cebrià until 1991, the year that The National Auditorium of Andorra was opened in Ordino. Since 1998 The Festivals Association of Ordino, created by the ‘Crèdit Andorrà Foundation' and The Council of Ordino, has organised the Narciso Yepes International Festival which has included such renowned performers as Yehudi Menuhin, Montserrat Caballé, Josep Carreras, Jean Pierre Rampal, Cristina Hoyos, Barbara Hendricks, The Scottish Chamber Orchestra, The National Chamber Orchestra of Andorra and The National Orchestra of the Capitole of Toulouse with Michel Plasson, among many others. At the end of 1992, the Government of Andorra resolved to create the National Chamber Orchestra of Andorra (ONCA) under the direction of the Andorran violinist Gerard Claret, known internationally for his career as a soloist and teacher. The ONCA is attached to the ONCA Foundation, which is managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Culture and Cooperation of the Government of Andorra and the Crèdit Andorrà Foundation. The official presentation of the ONCA took place in March 1993. The orchestra has given concerts in Andorra, Spain, France, Belgium, Italy, Germany and Portugal, achieving a position of prestige in the musical panorama. " Els Petits Cantors " is a choir of boys with mixed voices which is composed by more than forty members. When the repertory makes it necessary the Choir is complemented by invited singers, some of them are usually old Petits Cantors. The Choir has its own see in the Church of Santa Eulàlia in Encamp, where the musical and choral training takes place. With its singing, The Petits Cantors get to transmit an integration message which goes beyond the cultural, socials and linguistic differences. The Petits Cantors obtain an integral training during their extracurricular timetable, four times a week. The vocal work is complemented by specifically sing stays and with a non stop training in solfa and piano. At the same time of all this traineeship the Petits Cantors learn how to make an effort, to live together, to be supportive and disciplined. The purpose of The National Choir of Petits Cantors , nowadays, as it was in the past, is to present the Andorran culture around the world. It is also a function of the Petits Cantors the broadcasting of the sacred music as well as the choral music of Andorran and Catalan authors and also international composers.
